Between 2008 and 2011, TechnoServe implemented the business plan competition program Idea Tu Empresa in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, Valparaiso and Concepción. Entrepreneurs with new business ideas and already existing businesses received customized consulting and workshops on topics ranging from negotiation to marketing strategies.
TechnoServe ran a business plan competition to help entrepreneurs in the seven regions where Cargill operates in Venezuela to grow their small businesses and encourage income growth and sustainability. The program focused on small businesses that benefit people at the base of the economic pyramid.
The Andean Business Plan Competition focused on building entrepreneurial capacity across six countries: Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. TechnoServe guided more than 929 entrepreneurs as they put their plans into action, generating 3,300 new jobs in the region and impacting thousands of families.
TechnoServe worked with various cocoa and coffee industry stakeholders to help Honduran farmers and processors cater to the growing worldwide demand for specialty coffee and fine cocoa. TechnoServe-led technical and business training helped farmer cooperatives improve their crop quality and market access, generating higher incomes and creating many new jobs.
TechnoServe helped coffee producer groups become more profitable by growing and selling lucrative specialty coffee. Using tools such as traceability software and quality management systems, TechnoServe business advisors trained the producers in industry best practices.
TechnoServe introduced its successful business plan competition model to help Ecuador's budding entrepreneurs and small businesses turn good ideas into thriving, growth-oriented businesses. The program focused on small and medium businesses in the fields of food security, health, housing, basic services, tourism, energy and information technology.
