Inspirational Stories of Real People

From coffee farmers in Ethiopia to green-tech entrepreneurs in India, real stories of transformation speak to something deep within us:

These aren’t fiction. They’re moments of courage, confidence, and change.

Let’s dive in.

Jacqueline Castillo is the president of an agribusiness in Mexico.

1. Jacqueline in Mexico: From Teacher to Agribusiness Leader

In the small town of Tomatlán, Jacqueline once taught in a local school. But when she joined TechnoServe’s Pequeño Productor program, she discovered a new path: business leadership.

Today, she manages a fast-growing community enterprise that increased sales by 1,400% and created 256 jobs. Her cooperative is proof that when women lead, communities rise.

➡️ Jacqueline is helping other women start businesses, too.

2. Tanmay in India: Turning Waste Into Opportunity

As the founder of Brisil Technologies, Tanmay had a bold idea—convert rice husk ash (an agricultural waste) into eco-friendly silica.

With TechnoServe’s support, Tanmay scaled his business tenfold. Today, Brisil prevents 25,000 tons of waste annually and supports sustainable industry across India.

➡️ What began as a vision became a green business movement.

3. Lubaba in Ethiopia: A Cup of Coffee and a Lifetime of Change

Over a decade ago, Lubaba joined a TechnoServe program working with coffee farmers in her community. Her income has since grown by 200%, and she’s opened a small shop and a beekeeping side business.

She paid for her children’s university education using the money she earned from coffee farming.

➡️ Lubaba’s journey shows what women can do with access and confidence.

4. Naume and Anita in Mozambique: A mother and daughter join forces

After Naume lost her husband, she and her mother Anita formed a business. She handles the accounting and sales while her mother specializes in production.

By embracing new farming techniques, they have achieved higher yields and enough income to diversify their crops and pay for food and education for Naume’s four children.

➡️ Despite devastating loss, this mother-daughter duo forged a profitable path for their family.

5. Benjamin in El Salvador: A 69-year-old farmer regenerates his land and his life

Benjamin’s crops were plagued by coffee leaf rust, a plant disease that seems to thrive at higher altitudes because of warmer temperatures. Determined to revive his coffee farm, he learned regenerative agriculture techniques that increased his coffee yields, improved his income and life, and expanded his understanding of climate-conscious farming.

➡️ Benjamin became an advocate for regenerative agriculture and its global impact after experiencing the results himself.

6. Mariana in Brazil: Turning her dreams into reality.

Uncertain about her next step after high school, a TechnoServe program empowered Mariana to develop a business plan that improved her family’s enterprise. She used her new skills to practice new recipes and make other changes. She says the course showed her that she can dream and realize her dreams.

➡️ Gaining new skills, connections, and confidence leads to better incomes for young people.

7. Joyce in Botswana: A safari business grows.

Joyce started working as a travel agent, relying on third-party operators and only earning a small commission.

After joining a TechnoServe program, she used her new business management skills to secure funding and expand. Today, she has a thriving safari company that offers tourists unforgettable experiences while uplifting her community.
