Lubaba’s Story

Lubaba Mekonnen (pictured above) struggled to support her children after her husband left the family. Working with TechnoServe, she learned how to dramatically improve her coffee yields and quality. This enabled her to sell her coffee at much higher prices for years — increasing her income by 200%.

Today, she lives in a good house, purchased with her coffee income. And is sending her oldest child, Mohammed, to university, where he plans to study to become a doctor.

“I have been able to learn and go to school — this is one of the opportunities that I got from my mother’s involvement in [coffee]. My wish is to be a doctor because I want my mom to have a better life.”
