TechnoServe and Ghanaian Ministry of Food and Agriculture Launch Training to Support Young Women in the Tomato Sector
TechnoServe’s partnership with local government institutions enhances employment and quality in tomato value chains.
ACCRA, GHANA (July 14, 2025)– TechnoServe, in partnership with the Directorate of Crop Services at Ghana’s Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), announced a new initiative under the Harnessing Agricultural Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) program aimed at strengthening the country’s tomato value chain.
Through specialized training programs, 150 young women from Akumadan, Tuobodom, and Techiman Tia will gain vital skills in tomato harvesting, sorting, and grading. The initiative is designed to strengthen the tomato value chain by equipping women with the practical expertise required to meet industry standards and improve employment opportunities.
Importantly, the program will directly connect trainees with local tomato farmers, ensuring a reliable supply chain from farm to processor. This integrated approach benefits all players in the value chain, from producers to processors to consumers, by improving efficiency, reducing waste, and raising product quality while also addressing critical labor gaps in the agricultural sector. By equipping participants with practical, industry-aligned skills, the initiative helps create sustainable employment pathways and enhances women’s participation in agribusiness.

The HAPPY program is a four-year partnership between the Mastercard Foundation, Agri-Impact Limited, and TechnoServe, aiming to create 326,000 dignified job opportunities for Ghanaian youth. Implementation is carried out by a consortium of partners—including NewAge Agric Solutions, the National Service Scheme (NSS), Ghana Cares (MiDA), the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Jobberman, and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA)—under TechnoServe’s leadership. This collaboration underscores TechnoServe’s commitment to market-based solutions that promote inclusive economic growth and Ghana’s agriculture sector.
