New Entrepreneurship Training Empowers Ghanaian Youth in Agriculture
Mastercard Foundation, Agri-Impact Limited, and TechnoServe launch training to support micro-entrepreneurs in key agricultural sectors.
ACCRA, GHANA (June 30, 2025) – TechnoServe announced the launch of the entrepreneurship training component of the Harnessing Agricultural Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY) program. The inaugural cohort comprises 93 micro-entrepreneurs specializing in rice, tomato, poultry, and soybean value chains. Significantly, 89 participants (95%) are women, underscoring the program’s commitment to inclusive economic growth.
The six-week training equips entrepreneurs with essential business and entrepreneurial skills, including financial management, bookkeeping, marketing, digital literacy, customer service, and inclusive business practices. Participants will also receive micro-grants upon completion to directly boost their business operations.
Among the first cohort are three innovative agritech founders leveraging digital technology to enhance market access for smallholder farmers and agribusinesses in Ghana.
“This training has completely transformed how I manage my agribusiness,” said Sandra, a poultry farmer and training participant. “Before, I struggled with pricing and keeping proper records. Now, I’m not just working hard; I’m working smart.”
Samuel, founder of an agritech startup connecting farmers to buyers, added, “The training has been a turning point. I’ve gained critical business skills and built connections that I believe will greatly enhance my business growth.”
TechnoServe’s program director, Frank Obiora, emphasized the broader impact. “By enhancing the capacity of micro-entrepreneurs—particularly women—we are strengthening the entire agricultural value chain,” he said. “This training goes beyond skills; it’s about unlocking potential for lasting prosperity.”
The HAPPY program is a four-year partnership between the Mastercard Foundation, Agri-Impact Limited, and TechnoServe, aiming to create 326,000 dignified job opportunities for Ghanaian youth. It specifically prioritizes young women and persons with disabilities across strategic agricultural sectors.
