"I had a great deal of independence in my work, and it was also so diverse that I can’t say I ever had a 'typical work day.' Some days I spent at the office in Kampala, but I also spent a lot of time in the field visiting the cooperatives so as to directly discuss the challenges they were facing."

"I quickly found out what it meant to be an SME advisor, and, when broken down into strategic steps it was not as intimidating as I had imagined. We devised strategies for each business and performed diagnostics to understand the state of their operations. We talked about their long-term aspirations, focusing on critical areas where we could have real impact."

"I was able to learn about and get involved in various office initiatives. I had the chance to meet with entrepreneurs running businesses and associations in various regions of Guatemala and discuss their future business plans. One of the most memorable of these visits was with a group of Mayan women who produce some formidable jams, which have found a permanent place on my breakfast table."
