Chile

Overview

Chile has a robust and diverse national economy, but its benefits are far from equally distributed. The country has one of the highest levels of income inequality in the world, which leads to social vulnerability. From 1996 to 2006, nearly 30 percent of households were considered poor during some period of time.

TechnoServe is implementing entrepreneurship development projects in Chile with the support of private and public partners. The programs are helping high potential small and growing businesses to increase sales, jobs and wages in the local community.

Impact

TechnoServe Chile has promoted five business plan competitions and provided long term business consulting, assisting more than 360 businesses in total across a variety of sectors, such as agro-industry, manufacturing, health, services and tourism. The businesses have increased their sales 49 percent on average within a year and up to 174 percent at the end of the 18-month-long business advisory.
