Mercedes Valle, a farmer with the Jorge Salazar Cooperative in northern Nicaragua, shows cocoa pods from one of his trees. TechnoServe is helping the cooperative's farmers capitalize on the business opportunity presented by cocoa beans from the native criollo tree, which are prized by gourmet chocolate makers. By planting or preserving more than 300 acres of trees, our work is helping to protect Nicaragua's rich biodiversity.
