TechnoServe is currently working with governments, growers and local processing plants to develop biofuel industries in Mozambique and Guatemala. In Mozambique we have developed and tested a model for biodiesel production from coconut oil. We are also investigating the feasibility of using jatropha (a plant that grows well on marginal land that is unsuitable for food production) and other feedstocks for biofuels production and are currently running a jatropha pilot program in Guatemala. The outcomes will help shape biofuel programs that are in the planning stages in other countries.

"To me TechnoServe has always been distinguished by its long-term commitment to building cooperatives and businesses from the bottom up in a way that makes sense for the individuals."
