Zambia
Zambia has experienced economic growth in recent years, but a majority of its population still lives below the poverty line. The country’s heavy dependence on mining has prompted the government to diversify the country’s economy. TechnoServe is helping to strengthen Zambia’s agricultural sector through a program that aims to boost soy production among small-scale farmers.

TechnoServe is working to create new market opportunities for thousands of soy farmers in Zambia. Thanks to a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, TechnoServe is promoting innovative price-risk management products to help smallholder farmers participate in the soy industry, which is currently dominated by large commercial farmers. This is part of a broader effort to build a sustainable soy industry in Southern Africa.
