Venezuela

Venezuela is one of Latin America’s most urbanized countries, and its economy is heavily dependent on oil revenues. Yet about a third of the population lives on less than $2 a day. TechnoServe is working to create new opportunities for the urban poor. In partnership with Cargill, its local affiliate Cargill Venezolana and leading entrepreneur-development organization Foco Sustentable, we are implementing our proven business plan competition model. The partners are working to help Venezuelan entrepreneurs turn micro businesses into larger, thriving ventures that create opportunities for the bottom of the economic pyramid.

Business Plan Competitions
TechnoServe is running a business plan competition to help entrepreneurs in the seven regions where Cargill operates to grow their small businesses and encourage income growth and sustainability. The program will focus on small businesses that benefit people at the bottom of the economic pyramid by generating jobs and markets while also increasing the supply of high-quality, affordable goods and services. TechnoServe and its local partners will work with high-potential entrepreneurs to develop effective business plans, while Cargill will offer opportunities to participate in its supply chain.
Key supporters: Cargill and the Inter-American Development Bank

"One lesson I have learned from institutions like TechnoServe is that with concentrated effort...coupled with knowledge, finance and committed people on the ground, you will successfully advance rural economic development."
