Robert “Bo” Manly

Former Executive Vice President, CFO and Chief Synergy Officer, Smithfield Foods, Inc.

Bo retired in January 2015 after 29 years with Smithfield Foods, Inc. and 38 years in the livestock and meat processing industries. For the year prior to retirement, Bo served as Executive Vice President and Chief Synergy Officer, responsible for extracting synergistic value between Smithfield and its new Chinese owner Shaunghui International, now WH Group. For the five years prior to the merger, Bo served as Smithfield’s EVP and Chief Financial Officer. Bo had a distinguished career over four decades in the pork, beef and livestock industries.

After working for a variety of other companies, including IPB, Inc., he came to Smithfield to serve as Executive Vice President of Smithfield Foods from 1986 through 1996. His roles also included the positions of President and Chief Operating Officer of Smithfield Packing Co. from 1994 to 1995 and member of the Smithfield board of directors. Bo then served as President of Premium Standard Farms for 10 years, later rejoining Smithfield Foods as an Executive Vice President in 2006. During Bo’s career, he was responsible for the world’s largest integrated livestock operations, with direct activities in the U.S., Mexico, Poland, Romania and China.

Bo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Stanford University and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School. Bo and his wife Nancy are traveling and building a house in Mexico.
