Improving Livelihoods of Smallholder Farming Households in Karnataka
Maize is a key crop in Davangere district for 80% small and marginal farmers. These farmers face challenges such as lack of information of good cultivation, harvest and post-harvest practices, lack of information on package of practices specific to seed varieties, water stress due to delayed or low level of rainfall, pests and diseases, lack of bargaining power, lack of storage facilities and lack of direct market opportunities which affect their income.
TechnoServe is implementing a livelihoods support program for 5,000 smallholder farming households in the Davangere district of Karnataka. Key elements of the intervention are Agriculture Development & Diversification; Livelihood opportunities developed for the youth of the farming households through the Agri Fellow Program; Economic empowerment opportunities created for the women of the farming households.
