Two Mozambicans collect eggs from locally-raised chickens. In 2005, domestically produced poultry accounted for only a third of the market in Mozambique. TechnoServe recognized poultry’s potential to create jobs and economic opportunities, launching a comprehensive program to strengthen the local industry.

Today, Mozambican broilers outnumber imports three to one, and in just four years, the poultry industry grew from $25 million to over $160 million. Hundreds of thousands of Mozambicans are living better lives thanks to the industry’s growth – eating healthier diets, accessing health care, sending more children to school.
