In Rwanda, young people make up more than 60% of the population, but often lack the skills and knowledge to become employed. Many young people view agriculture as a last resort and formal employment is difficult to find. The same root causes fuel youth unemployment across rural East Africa.

That’s why TechnoServe and The MasterCard Foundation are working to help young people like Jean-Pierre transition to economic independence in Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda. Our Strengthening Rural Youth Development through Enterprise (STRYDE) program aims to develop life, entrepreneurship and career skills in 15,000 rural young women and men. In the end, the skills and knowledge will help participants to capitalize on economic opportunities and increase their incomes.
