Floare is helping to protect and preserve Ecuador’s more than 4,000 orchid species with its strong focus on conservation.

Dayana Miranda, left, and the management team of Floare display their product: baby orchids. The business is helping to protect and preserve Ecuador’s more than 4,000 orchid species with its strong focus on conservation.

In 2011, Floare participated in the business plan competition Siembra Futuro, organized by TechnoServe and SABMiller (Cervecería Nacional).  Floare impressed the competition’s judges and won $15,000, as well as technical assistance from TechnoServe’s business advisors. Dayana and her team worked with the advisors to design and implement a business plan focused on exporting their products.

Floare is conducting scientific research on orchids and helping to preserve Ecuador’s biodiversity. In addition to five full-time employees, the company generates indirect jobs for more than 25 suppliers. Having established strong relationships with key clients and suppliers, Dayana and her team are working to improve the company’s infrastructure, increase production capacity, develop new products and improve its marketing. These improvements will help Floare create more jobs and economic opportunities.
