Earlier today, Edun founders Ali Hewson and Bono, Diesel founder Renzo Rosso, and TechnoServe Uganda Country Director Erastus Kibugu discussed the collaboration at the IHT Luxury Conference in Rome. Hweson discussed how farmers in the Gulu region are reestablishing their livelihoods after 25 yearrs of a destructive civil war.

"Along with an organization called TechnoServe, we've been able to provide funding and skills and enterprise techniques so they can build their farms into sustainable businesses themselved," Hewson said.

"It's beginning to rebuild a community that has been decimated."

"It's beginning to rebuild a community that has been decimated," said Kibugu. Bono talked about the need to "completely reboot the way we thing about the continent" and to focus on business, not charity, for Africa.

I can guarantee you a lot more African designers, a lot more African companies breaking through globally because they have such a huge domestic audience that they'll get to scale quicker there and then come out and meet the rest of the world," Bono said. "Our dream would be that Edun would be part of that, and that people will be pleased that we were there early on."
